Traumatic bereavement clinical guide

An extensive practice guide to support therapeutic work with traumatically bereaved children and young people.

This is part of a traumatic bereavement resource, which supports schools, colleges and practitioners working with children and young people.

The guide includes tools and measures to accurately identify traumatic bereavement, guidance on when and how to refer on to more specialist services, and evidence-informed approaches to meet the specific needs that can arise from a traumatic bereavement.

Who is it for?

People who already work therapeutically with bereaved children and young people who have appropriate training, experience and supervision.

This guidance represents the view of the UK Trauma Council, arrived at after careful consideration of the evidence available. The guide does not override your responsibility to make decisions appropriate to the circumstances of the individual, in consultation with them and their families, carers or guardians, and in line with your professional and organisational policies and procedures.
